Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine. The therapy involves application of special cups on the skin creating a vacuum effect. The negative pressure in the cups, created by either heat or suction, loosens underlying connective tissue and stimulates blood flow and fluid to the surface of the skin. This relieves muscle tension, promotes cell repair and helps form new connective tissue and new blood vessels in the tissue.
The cups are made of glass, plastic or silicon and the suction strength is regulated by the therapist from light, moderate or strong, to suit each client’s preference. The cups can be placed static or, with application of oil, be moved around, using a sliding technique, creating myofascial release.
Cupping is a fantastic technique for increased range of motion and for bringing fluid to the joints.
